Installation team working on bullet-resistant glazing at a Philadelphia school

Coordinate a consequential upgrade without losing sight of the building around it.

The project replaced the facility’s existing storefront glazing with bullet-resistant glass. The work included advance planning, vendor, contractor and client coordination, and continuous onsite oversight through installation.

The installation was scheduled for and completed during the school’s in-service break, creating a concentrated window for the physical work and the field decisions that came with it.

The installation developed problems. The project still needed to finish correctly.

01 / FIELD CONDITION

The supplied frames did not fit.

The frame dimensions were wrong and had to be cut down onsite. Coordination continued across the parties involved while the client and project team received regular field updates.

02 / SECURITY DETAIL

The locks were not installed correctly.

A security project is not complete when the glass is merely in place. The locking problems were identified, communicated and carried through correction.

03 / COORDINATION

Several relationships had to keep working.

The work required an active flow of information between vendor, contractor, client representatives and the broader team, with regular reporting on conditions, decisions and progress.

The problems were real. So was the finish.

By closeout, the frame and locking issues had been resolved and the protective glazing was installed. The value of the work was not that nothing went wrong. It was that the problems became visible, stayed owned and were carried to resolution.
